Trapped in the Room: What an Escape Room Taught Us About Your Financial Future

June 01, 2026

Hello All!  Recently, our team traded our spreadsheets for secret compartments and padlocks. We headed to a local speakeasy-themed escape room with one goal: travel back in time to the Roaring 20s to find as many giggle tonics as we could before the 60-minute timer hit zero in order to save Babe Ruth and restore the timeline.

As we stood in a dimly lit alleyway surrounded by cryptic wall scribblings and locked trunks, the pressure was real. But as the clock ticked down, a funny thing happened. The same principles we use every day to manage client portfolios began to emerge in the heat of the game.

By the time the final giggle tonic was accounted for with seconds to spare, we realized that an escape room is a perfect metaphor for investment planning. Here is why teamwork is the "master key" to both.

  1. No One Has Every Answer (And That’s Okay)

In the room, we had one person who was a wizard at word riddles and another who could spot a hidden physical key from across the room. If we had all tried to solve the same math puzzle at once, we would have run out of time.

The Financial Parallel: Your financial life is a complex puzzle involving tax strategies, estate planning, and investment management. A great financial advisor doesn't work in a vacuum; we lead a team of specialists—from CPAs to attorneys—to ensure every unique "clue" in your unique financial situation is handled by an expert.

  1. Communication Prevents Costly Dead Ends

At one point, two of us were working on the same lock with different codes. It wasn’t until we shouted across the room, “I found a sequence!” that we realized we were duplicating effort.

The Financial Parallel: Misaligned expectations can lead to frustration and missed opportunities. Collaborative financial success works best when there is constant, transparent communication between you and Ed. Whether it’s a career change or a new family addition, "verbalizing what you see" helps us adjust your plan before the "clock" runs out on your goals.

  1. "Hints" Are a Strategic Resource

In an escape room, you can ask the Game Master for a hint. Some people think it’s "cheating," but we saw it as a strategic tool to maintain momentum when we hit a wall.

The Financial Parallel: Many people wait until a financial "emergency" to seek professional advice. But asking for help early on isn't a sign of weakness—it's how you avoid getting stuck in a high-pressure situation. A team-based approach offers increased reliability and ensures there is always someone available to provide that crucial "hint" when the market or life gets complicated.  Look to Ed as your Game Master with lots of hints!

The Ultimate "Shared Victory"

The best part of the escape room wasn't just saving Babe Ruth from a poison bottle of giggle tonic; it was the high-fives at the end. We won because we trusted each other’s expertise and worked toward a single, clear objective.  By the way, we found all 12 bottles of giggle tonic.

We bring that same "escape room" energy to your financial journey. You don’t have to solve the puzzle of retirement or wealth management alone. When we work as a team, the "locks" open up to the future you dream of.

Are you ready to unlock your financial potential? Let’s sit down and look at the "puzzle" together.
